During a recent visit to Rockhampton Airport, we took an opportunity to drop-by and catch-up with the friendly people at the J.M. Kelly (Project Builders) Pty Ltd hangar.
The project construction business owns two immaculately maintained and presented aircraft in the form of Cessna 550 Citation II VH-JMK and Cessna 310R VH-FFA.
VH-JMK is a 1981 manufactured aircraft powered by a pair of Pratt & Whitney (Canada) JT15D-4 turbofans. While admiring the beautifully presented cabin, it was noted the Citation II is configured to comfortably seat eight-passengers which included a self-serve galley.
While not necessarily specific to VH-JMK, research revealed the Cessna 550 Citation II is capable of cruising at 403 knots (464 mph, 746 km/h ), achieve a range of approximately 3 700 km and obtain a service ceiling of 43 000 ft (13 100m).
Meanwhile, sistership VH-FFA is predominately used to transport company employees and contractors about the countryside and can often be sighted at different airports (more times in Central Queensland than not) whether only for a part-day, day or overnight visit.
Manufactured in 1978 and powered by a pair of Teledyne-Continental IO-520, 6-cylinder engines, VH-FFA can accommodate 4 people (1 pilot, 3 passengers) in a simple but relatively plush cabin with leather covered seats.
