Australia by Seaplane - Gladstone Airport

Based at Gladstone Airport and predominately used to provide passenger transfers between the port city and Heron Island is Australia by Seaplane de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver Mk1 VH-IDO, and is often supported by Cessna U206 Floatplane VH-FKS.

Both aircraft can also be chartered for scenic flights of Lake Awoonga, Gladstone Harbour, Boyne Island / Tannum Sands, the Collosseum, Mt Larcom, Curtis Island, Facing Island and many other locations of interest in the area. Extended flights capable of taking in the sights of Great Keppel Island, 1770 / Agnes Waters, or beyond can also be arranged.
 
For information, passengers can be collected from and delivered to many waterways throughout the region, and all flights only operate if weather and tidal conditions permit. Passengers are also familiarised with the aircraft during a preflight safety briefing.

Manufactured in 1964 and powered by a Pratt & Whitney Canada R-985 Wasp Junior, 9-cylinder radial piston engine, VH-IDO is fitted with six seats to accommodate one pilot and five passengers. VH-FKS was manufactured in 1976, is powered by a Teledyne-Continental, IO-520, 6-cylinder piston engine, and configured to seat four people (one pilot / three passengers).

Chrisair Aircraft Maintenance

Chrisair Aircraft Maintenance is a reputable, Central Queensland Coast based light aircraft maintenance provider located in a large hangar on the General Aviation (GA) side of Mackay Airport adjacent to the old Domestic Terminal Building.

Established in 1993 by the Christensen family, Chrisair offer a comprehensive range of aircraft maintenance services for private and charter operators with either piston or turbine powered aircraft of up to 5700kg MTOW.

In 2013, ownership of Chrisair moved from father to son with Dan Christensen now operating Chrisair.

Among the more common aircraft type that are serviced at Chrisair but not necessarily restricted to include Beechcraft, Cessna, de Havilland, GippsAero, Piper and Socata. 

Of interest, Chrisair have over the years built a reputation as seaplane specialists and currently service a handful of Beaver and Cessna Caravan's on floats which operate in award winning tourism charters from as far afield as Kununurra, WA; more locally in the Whitsundays; and as far south as Gladstone.

Chrisair service planes which are flown in from all over Australia and in some cases offer service off-site.

Expedition Aerial Services

Based at the small Central Queensland mining township of Moura, Expedition Aerial Services provides a range of professional aerial agricultural spraying including that for weed / pest eradication, fertilising, herbicide, spreading, spraying, baiting (rat, mice, dingo) and seeding.

Expedition Aerial Services also has the capacity to assist fire-fighters with a fire-bombing platform when called upon.

The sole aircraft currently operated by EAS is Air Tractor AT-402B VH-SNF, and is capable of cruising at approximately 110 knots when ladened thanks to the Pratt & Whitney PT6A-15AG turboprop engine nestled under the front cowlings.
