Having been part of Townsville since World War II, the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) has a long association with the local community, and as a way of thanking the people of North Queensland for their support for many decades, the Australian Defence Force held the T150 Defence Force Air Show along The Strand foreshore on Saturday, October 15, followed by an Open Day at RAAF Base Townsville on Sunday, October 16.
In conjunction with the Townsville City Council, the air show provided an opportunity for the community to not only watch an aviation spectacular featuring a range of current aircraft in service with the Air Force, but iconic and historic warbirds from the pass.
To supplement the air display, the Townsville Bulletin Sky Show kicked-off after dusk, and featured breathtaking fireworks that ignited the sky.
Needless to say, the Open Day provided an opportunity for people to get a personal insight into one of the Air Force’s most important forward operating bases, as well as an understanding about some of the latest technology that provides the ADF capacity to defend our shores.
Among the huge crowd that gathered to observe the T150 Defence Force Air Show was Mike Manning from 'Mackay and SE Queensland Storms & Astro', and has kindly allowed Air Queensland.blogspot to share some truly magnificent photo's captured on the day.
