Demonstrator - Cirrus Design Corporation SR20 VH-ZSZ - Maryborough Airport

Making a much welcomed visit to Maryborough Airport and partake in the inaugural Fraser Coast Fly-in on Saturday, August 08, was Cirrus Design Corporation SR20 VH-ZSZ.

Piloted by Sales Manager of Cirrus Sunshine Coast, Andy Hartel, the immaculately presented aircraft made the short hop north from Gold Coast / Coolangatta Airport via Caloundra Airport and put on display for a number of hours to allow interested people to take a closer look at the four-seat aircraft, this also provided a great opportunity to ask plenty of questions.

Powered by an 200hp, IO-360-ES, 6-cylinder piston engine, the SR20 is reportedly capable of cruising at 140-145 knots. Depending on payload and weather conditions, endurance is approximately three hours, not including reserves.

Of interest, the Cirrus SR20 as well as the more powerful SR22 and SR22T siblings, are perhaps best known for being equipped with the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS), an emergency whole plane parachute capable of lowering the aircraft (and occupants) safely to the ground after a loss of control, structural failure or mid-air collision.
