Hosted by the Fraser Coast Residential Airpark, Hervey Bay Airpark, Maryborough Aero Club and the Hervey Bay Aero Club - the inaugural Fraser Coast Fly-in was held at the weekend of Saturday, August 08 and Sunday, August 09 2015 at Maryborough Airport.
As anticipated, most aircraft arrived Saturday morning, in time for a superb BBQ lunch kindly prepared by the Maryborough Aero Club. After a good feed, the afternoon was fulfilled with a flying competition that seen participating aircraft fly from Maryborough to Fraser Island and return via a designated course which included a touch-n-go at a private airstrip near Hervey Bay.
After sunset, aviators and aviation enthusiasts alike gathered at the club house for dinner and evening entertainment.
On Sunday, August 09, a courtesy bus ferried interested people to and from the Seafood Festival at Fishermans Park, Urangan, Hervey Bay. During the afternoon, remaining aviators who had not left earlier, began departing for home.
In a joint feature deal that is expected to commence mid-2016, Fraser Coast Residential Airpark Pty Ltd is planning to build upto 160 new houses, some with private aircraft hangars, in the new airpark at Maryborough Airport.
According to the Fraser Coast Mayor, Gerard O'Connell, residents residing in the airpark will be able to either keep aircraft on their property or park them in shared spaces and have access to a runway.
