Being able to personally inspect a Boeing B-52H Stratofortress Bomber at the Australian International Air Show 2015 was an absolute thrill, and certainly an experience a member of the public is not able to do everyday. Infact, a rare opportunity indeed !
Making it's way across the big pond (Pacific Ocean) from Barksdale AFB, Louisiana, USA to attend the biennial airshow at Avalon, Victoria was AF61-015.
First entering service in the mid-1950's, the B52 Stratofortress is a long-range, strategic bomber capable of carrying up to 70,000 pounds (32,000 kg) of weapons. Reportedly with over 70 platforms remaining in active service, the aircraft is anticipated to continue flying with the USAF until approximately 2040. At present, an option to re-engine the B-52 is being considered.
